Bee Blocks Bitches!

Finally got a picture taken of all the awesome blocks I received during my very first block swap! They are the beginning to an awesome quilt. Met some new people, got some good fabrics, had some fun times... in fact so much fun I am doing it again! Keep your eyes peeled for new block construction - and in the mean time - here they are in all their shining glory:

I have to say - if you want to get into a swap - this Nubees group was awesome to get your toes wet with!

WIP Wednesday?

EEP!!!! Folks sad to say the list is still quite the same - and so FRIGGIN LOOONNNGGGG!!! I spent the past holiday weekend at the lake water skiing and kayaking and catching some rays. I did manage to finish a cowl I had been working on - but I had lent my sewing machine to some friends to make some t-shirt quilts for themselves over the weekend. Unfortunately, the camera is at home and I am at work - but maybe tonight I can load some pictures up for you to see  DONE! The quilts turned out great and they finished them in less than 48 hours!

I won't be adding Lee's button because I don't feel this is a legit enough WIP post. Next Wednesday will be totally legit because I get to do my favorite thing this weekend - a crafternoon with M (Sew Hungry) - heaven :-) Plus it is M's birthday Friday so there will be left over birthday cake to eat!

And lastly I leave you with my own personal WIP - me! I won't be getting too much into life outside crafting on this blog- but I had my first check in with my personal trainer 7 weeks after starting and things are looking good people!!!! So I am pretty amped and that means we have the 80's baby station on this morning...

Sewing withdrawals...

Currently I have no time to sew - BOO! But I still have time at work to browse the interwebs. I found two awesome things that I would like to participate in. Now to share about them:

I don't think my mustache button is working :-(

1. Can't grow a mo'? Sew a mo'! Danielle of DJ Coolbear is asking for help making some mustachioed blocks for quilts that will be raffled off; monies made from the sales will go to help out where her dad received care during his fight with prostate cancer, Mary Potter Hospice. You can read more about Danielle and what she is doing here and here. I have been toying with mustaches ever since I read about the mustdash lap quilt by Katy at i'm a ginger monkey. So this is the perfect way to try my hand at some stache. Plus my good buddy GT over at Love Handle Clothing would be so proud! Will keep you posted on stache updates :-)

2. Harry Potter Mug rug swap! EEPS - this screams fantastic. Rebeckah over at Handmade by Rebeckah has started this little fun idea and all you peeps can get in on it. Stephanie over at Sewing by Stephanie made a graphic/button for the swap and the Flickr group is here. Basically it seems that there will be two theme ideas - a Fall theme and then a holiday/Christmas theme. I know exactly what I will be doing. EXACTLY! Hahaha. Anyhow you should head to the flickr group and sign yourselves up! It promises to be a good time.

Wish me luck - the last week of no sewing- thank jeebus! Monday night I am hitting the machine hard core - I got quilt back log and am super excited to start these new items.

And just for S&G -  this is an awesome short called The Maker I saw at the film festival this weekend. If you have 5-6 minutes check it.

Philosophical Pfridays

So M over at Sew Hungry is starting Philosophical Pfridays - and needs to make a button for it like WOAH. I think she had a certain idea for it as you can see at her blog from last friday. I am going to take it a different route today, but nevertheless will be metaphorically linking up to it. So here we go!

It has been ages (ok well a week) since I have touched my wondrous fabrics... right when I was starting to pick up momentum and life just came and swept me up. Oh well - in my fam we were born to go with the motion of the ocean. Sadly I have no updates for you of the crafting variety, therefore I will leave you with this: I purchased these beauties from Rebecca of Sew Festive. I have a side job 3 nights a week for 3 weeks where I sit around and watch people, but I can't bring my sewing machine, and I just finished up what was on my knitting needles, so I figured let's get started on some HP loveliness.

In the mean time - the weather this week has been AMAZING! It's like I am back in good ole sunny California. And I really believe I have a weird variation of SAD (seasonal affective disorder) - because whenever the weather gets just right - i.e. like home - I become so giddy and excited and hyper I can't explain it. I am very thankful for our beautiful sunshiney breezy low humidity days; thank you weather gods! The weather has also had the effect of making me miss my family so I give you a picture of the men in my life, my dad and my brother at the county fair at home:

So how to end a good week, although I am slightly homesick? Head to an awesome film festival with friends! I will be attending the Sidewalk Film Festival here in the Ham, and am super excited to see all the movies I can get my eyes on!

Nubees Blocks for August

So excited to finally share these with you all! I made these blocks just using HSTs, and I really enjoyed pulling all of these colors! Let's get to it:

Kelli W, our hive mama, asked for aquas, yellows, and grays on a white background for a quilt for herself. I didn't have a lot of aqua or gray so went to do a little shopping and came up with this block:

Michelle continued her requests for oranges, teals, and turquoises on a white background. I really love the orange and teal combo fabric in this block:

Sarah is making a fun quilt for her god daughter who is turning 5. She asked for bright greens, pinks, and purples on white. These colors were fun to work with - who doesn't want to make fun bright kid quilts?

And last but not least, Francine asked for primary colors for a quilt she is starting, This was the most daunting. I had no modern primary colored fabric, so I had to borrow from M and do some shopping. What do you think of the final product?

Here they are all together! I had so much fun making these and immediately signed up for September's swap!

And of course I had to make one for M, because we also made blocks for each other :-) She wanted eggplants and mustard yellows on gray:

And my second block arrived from Sarah!!! Isn't it wonderful?!??!?!

Sorry this post was so very block heavy - but I am just super excited about it all! Still working on my camera  skills, and hopefully they all got their blocks by today - I was going for the element of surprise!

Beer me PLEASE

So the question is: at what time can I start drinking beer today? Slow slooooooow day today, which ultimately means I would rather be at home sewing :-) Big plans for the weekend, although I don't know if I will get to them. You all know I have been struggling with a few things for a while and I told M not to let me cut anything else until they are done. It is PURE AGONY. Especially because I have lots of beautiful fabric waiting to be sewn...

1. Sudoku your mom - Remember this old friend? I have been deciding for a while now how to enlarge him and I think I finally figured it out. I have a some yardage of the trees on an orange background in this Central Park line coming to me hopefully today so I can add it to the top and bottom... we will see! May the mail gods be good to me.

2. DWR aka bane of my existence - I have no update photos because half a sewn row doesn't count in my book. I just need to keep plodding along on this heinous beast.

Alas, check back in tomorrow sometime because I have some fun photos to share: I just completed my first swap ever and made awesome new quilty friends! I can show you what I made them because they should all have their blocks by today hopefully (again, if the mail gods are pleased).

Blog namesake

Today was just a perfect example of one of my favorite things to do: go to M's house - hang out, play games, bake, and sew! Mos def a Crafternoon that was delightful :-) We made delish cookies - these ones - courtesy of Bridget over at Bake at 350. We decided we would add some more flour so the cookies don't spread out as much.

I finished up all of my blocks that I needed to send out, but still have to finish M's. I can't share yet what I did, but I will share what the pattern looks like. I did a little HST action and you can see my colors in the block here:

Also, I got my first ever block from a swap!!!!!! It is wonderful!!! Francine of MochaWildChild made me this beautiful fabric concoction:

Aren't those scissors the ginchiest! Oh yeah, BTW my dad and I have been trying to bring back "the ginchiest" for a while now...
