So my mental quandary of the week: learning colors. I have been struggling with learning my colors better. I tend to adhere very strictly to a color palette and don't have a lot of basic knowledge on the subject. I find myself feeling confused and constrained - especially when I see what other people are creating and the colors they choose. I know Jeni over at In Color Order is fantastic with colors and I try to read what she posts about color for help. But I guess ultimately it is either an innate skill one has or something you learn over time - and I guess I am the latter.
Do any of you have any good books you read about learning colors better, or any tips or tricks to exploring and experimenting with color?
Cheers and Happy Friday! I got paid, too! That means a PayDay is in my near future :-) This was the one from last pay day:

What part of colors are you having issues with? Mixing and matching? Knowing what a complementary vs monochromatic vs analogous color scheme is? How colors mix together?
ReplyDeleteThe best way to learn that stuff is to play with color. :) Find your favorite media (I love playing with color in watercolors) and just go for it. Look at what a complementary color scheme is and paint/color it out. Notice how the colors look on their own and then how they look next to each other. If you don't want to draw them out, go grab some paint chips and compare them to each other. Although for color mixing, you need something mixable like paint or color pencil. :)
I love everything about color and could babble about it incessantly so I will stop now for fear that I might bore you. :D
I agree--innate. When people start talking about values, my eyes glaze over.
