More projects... why not?

Confession: I am obsessed with Play Crafts' palette builder. OBSESSED. So, naturally, when Laura of Quokka Quilts started the Travelling Pic-Stitch Blog Hop, I was intrigued. Very intrigued. They have a BUTTON!

This is how it goes:

1. You take a picture while traveling. I haven't been anywhere in the past few months but I did have pictures from travels earlier this year, as well as some great trips in the past.

2. Create a palette. AKA - play with the palette builder! Possibly the best part. Well almost, but I love touching fabric more.

3. Pull fabrics. Touch and examine every piece of your stash until you have created a wonderful eye catching selection that mimics your palette.

4. Stitch the fabrics into an EPP project. Aha! EPP or English paper piecing, a technique I have been looking to try. Maybe a pillow is in my future - perhaps for a best friend's upcoming birthday...

5. Flickr or blog post your creation. Tell the world about your amazing project through words and pictures!

6. Link up to the party on November 30th! The whole thing is actually a blog hop - so every day a different blogger will be performing step 5 until Nov 30th, when we all link up and show our stuff. FOR PRIZES! Some great sponsors - AurifilFabricwormFat Quarter ShopMarmalade Fabrics, & Pink Castle Fabrics - will be giving out goodies to the winners.

SO! I made some palettes and I need help choosing. I have decided to make a pillow using Katy's Spring carnival pattern - here she uses it for a quilt. With that in mind here are the palettes I am considering:

Tulips in Frogner Park outside Oslo, Norway
This is the front runner because it is from a trip that we (best friend & I) went on together.
Frogner Park, Oslo, Norway
Napali Coast arch in Kauai, HI
Cruising up and down the Napali Coast with the family and came across this gem.

Flower related to Lilikoi flowers in Charleston, SC
Beautiful flower MO & I found when walking on our vacay earlier this summer.
Historic home, Charleston, SC

Entryway to house in Monteriggioni, Toscana, Italy
Entryway to a house in a little hillside town in the middle of Tuscany.

Sunset wine in Austin, TX
On vacation in Austin visiting best friend - a little sunset wine.
Lake Travis, Austin, TX

What do you think? What would look best on a pillow for mi amiga? Once we decide I can start pulling yummy fabrics! I cut the templates out at work today already...

Cheers!

  1. Hrmmm I didn't realize that the blog hop was also an EPP-along! I should totally do it, as I've never tried it, and I want to see what all the fuss is about. ;)

My vote is for #2, #1, or #4. In that order. But honestly they're all gorgeous!

  2. So hard to decide. I think the Norway one would look great in the carnival design. But I am very partial to the Hawaii one. My third choice is the last one.

  5. Firstly - you take stunning photographs! I have been playing witht he palatte maker, but none of my photos are anywhere near as amazing as yours.
Secondly - I think you're palette has to take into acount where you wna tthis pillow to live. If it was going in my bedroom, I'd pick the stunning blues (#2). If it were for my sewing room, that special place just for me to be all girly and happy - it would be the tulips (#1) and if it was for our lounge and hubby had to share it with me I'd lean towards sunset (#5).
So think of your friend - what does her house look like? Does she tend towards bright or subtle? And keep these palettes for next time you're wondering around your local fabric shop, just in case :-)
