Sew Mama Sew Giveaway Day(s)!

Hey everyone! I really wanted to participate in the Sew Mama Sew giveaway day this year. Last year at this time I was a major lurker in the quilting blogosphere, so I definitely felt like I should contribute this time around. Don't forget to head over to Sew Mama Sew to check out all of the other giveaways - I think you could spend the whole week going through everything that is being given away! Here is the button - cuz you know I love me some buttons!

I was trying to figure out what I could giveaway, because I don't have that much awesomeness laying around. But I do have a few things that I thought might peak someone's interest.

Exhibit A: vintage fabrics (pretty sure these are originals because they have been in the family for a while but I could be wrong...). I have a ton so I picked out an assortment of fun ones. They all are varying yardage, but there is for sure a good amount of fabric available. I would say almost all but one are a fat quarter's worth or more. Here are the close ups:

you like that low volume on the end, don't you?
Some fun pinks in here, as well as some children...
for both the dog and cat lovers of the fabric world
Exhibit B: a pattern for a fat quarter friendly quilt. I had purchased it a while back and haven't gotten around to using it but it looks like a fun quick pattern, don't you think?

this has christmas fabs, but
it would be fun with anything I think
Exhibit C: this is for all you yarn peeps. Three skeins of Plymouth baby alpaca DK yarn in a nice aqua type blue (each skein is about 125yds). Here is a picture of one skein - but you will get 3!

it is super soft!
So I figure we can make this fun! All you have to do is leave me a comment in which you tell me the story of how you got into crafting :-) whether it was slow progression of a little here and a little there or if it was all in due to one fantastic event or a friend or family member, etc. Also, make sure to mention which Exhibit you would prefer - you can list, one, two, or all three! At the close of giveaway day (week really) I will plug you into Mr Random generator for each Exhibit you entered and then he will spit out the winners.

PLEASE MAKE SURE TO LEAVE ME AN EMAIL TO GET A HOLD OF YOU! I am already unable to get a hold of some of you to respond to your awesome comments :-(

This is open to everyone everywhere (except outer space)!

Thanks for stopping by and I hope you have fun checking out all the giveaways and have a great Tuesday!

  2. I sewed a little as a teen, mostly pillows for my bed. I couldn't sew a straight line then and disliked sewing. My mom was great at sewing, but I didn't want to learn! Well, I'm 40 now and I have been sewing and quilting for 3 years! I love it and the good news is I can finally sew a straight line with my 1/4 inch foot!!! Loved it so much that 1 year ago I got a Gammill to quilt on. Would never go back to quilting on my sewing machine. I love Exhibit A, they would be great for all sorts of quilts!!! Thanks.

  4. Please enter me for #1 & #3. I love vintage fabric, so thanks for a great giveaway! My mother taught me to sew and I've gone away and come back to it overtime, but always appreciated it. My first project was actually hand sewing a precut design onto an apron in daisy scouts when I was 5. From there I was hooked!

  5. oh my, alpaca for my baby girl, it was so expensive when I lived in Chile, and of course the first bundle of fabric. Start crafting I thinks for my mom, she loves everything handmade, and my grandfather work with don't know the name in English, but you have to seat it to ride a horse, was really amazing and handmade. Thanks

  6. I got into quilting by my mother's example :) She taught me all she knows :) I'd love to use Exibit A in a quilt! Thanks for giving me the opportunity to enter :)

  7. Wow! Such awesome choices! I got into crafting when I was young - a family friend worked at a print shop and brought me a brown paper shopping bag full of paper cuts/all colours and sizes. My mom set up a desk and a lamp in my closet as a small crafting space and I have never looked back! Still remember that brown bag fondly...it's amazing what something seemingly small will start! I really love those vintage fabrics...I would love a chance at those.

  9. I got started crafting as a kid just messing around with kiddie crafts and making clothes for little plastic dolls (oh those clothes were such double-knit nightmares!).

    Exhibit A, please.

  10. Like everyone else it seems - I had a baby! But my mom sewed and I remember learning to sew in a home ec class. So it has always been around me and I finally decided I needed a hobby. Been sewing for about 3 years now.

  11. I have always had the urge to create. It baffled my mom since she is the least crafty person I know. thanks for the giveaway!

  12. Exhibit A please! My fabric is soo lowwwww.

Um let's see... I sewed once in 7th grade and was proud of that pillow, and once again in high school in parenting class, a class quilt, we made. But it wasn't until my daughter was born that I got into sewing and bought my own machine, even then I didn't sew a whole lot.

More recently, about two years ago, my husband deployed but before deploying he bought me a new sewing machine and while he was deployed I sewed a lot and now I'm totally addicted!

  13. for #1 :)
I sewed a pair of boxers in highschool. They were horrible. After a couple of years of marriage, I was really wanting to give sewing a try again but had no good machine. My husband bought me one for our 3rd anniversary. And, I've been sewing for around 2 and a half years, having had a machine upgrade for a birthday in there as well :)

  14. When my children were born I couldn't find clothes that I really liked. Thank you for the giveaway. I would love to win vintage fabric.

  15. When I was a young pup we only had 3 channels on tv and my father controlled that as well as the selection wasn't that great so we had to do things to occupy ourselves. My grandmother had scraps stored in shoeboxes. So we made a template out of cardboard and with scissors cut out each piece and strung it on thread. Then with needle and thread we sewed the pieces together. Boy am I showing my age.

  17. Sign me up for Exhibit A :) My mom taught me how to make a pillow when I was little and she got me this little tiny kids sewing machine. I remember being so surprised that you put it together inside out and then turn it and it's a pillow! haha In high school, I became fascinated with quilts and then it grew from there... I made a few (crappy) quilts in high school, then in college I got a little more serious and after I got a job and some money bought a nicer machine and now I use it every day!

  18. I remember by Grandma quilting. I was lucky enough to receive the last quilt she ever made. Since I remember her everytime I see that quilt, I thought I would get into quilting so that loved ones would know the love that went into what I make them. I am still very slowly making things, but I love it.

I would love exhibit A or exhibit C.

  19. My grandmother taught me to sew when I was about 6 or so, because she got bored with making me things and thought that it'd be better to just to teach me to make things myself. My gran is my biggest inspiration when it comes to hand crafts; she used to to everything from sewing, bead work, painting glass and porcelain to weaving and she even taught dyeing with natural materials. I've been in love with sewing (and making soft toys especially) ever since gran first sat me in front of a sewing machine.

If I were lucky enough to win, I'd love Exhibit A!

  38. Well I am totally taken with exhibit A... I started making quilts because I had been collecting fabric for years and this suddenly seemed to be the perfect thing to do with it! My mum sews, her mum sews, I'd always known I would eventually!

  39. Love those vintage fabrics!! I have always been crafting and creating little things since I was young, but I wanted to learn how to quilt since I helped my grandmother hand-tie some of the ones she made. About three years ago I picked up every book and video from the library I could get my hands on, and looked at all kinds of blogs to learn how. I have now made about five large quilts and all kinds of small ones now. Anyways, Exhibit A reminds me of the fabrics my grandmother used and would love to win it! Thanks for the chance :)

  43. All your exhibits are fantastic!

My family are all very crafty, and I had done bits and pieces, usually clothes for myself, and always ended up so frustrated! I have a strange body shape.. lol. Then a few years ago I went to a quilt and craft show with my mum and aunt and picked up an applique book. I started making a small quilt for the little girl still in my tummy, and became completely hooked! I enjoy the quilting process so much, and have now branched out into making clothes for my little girl, little girls clothes are so much fun to sew as well! :)

  44. A friend showed me some clothes she had made for her daughter and I was so impressed I decided I would borrow her machine and give it a try. I loved it and the huge range of fabrics available online and now I'm hooked and have stepped more into the world of quilting.

  45. I really (REALLY) like the fabrics. They are unique and pretty.

My mom did craft shows when I was a little girl, so that's how I remember starting to craft. She would be at her sewing machine and I would craft on the floor by the table. As a kid, I had a loom and a little potter's wheel.

  47. I started sewing early, my mom was a fixer and a mender and we rarely bought new if we could fix the old. We always had lots of bits and pieces around to make things. I didn't really get into sewing until high school when I started using my grandmothers sewing machine and the ones in home economics. I caught the bug then and have never quit since. I do love that yarn! Knitting is another one of my many crafting pursuits, and I'm doing more and more!

  48. I have been into crafts for as long as I can remember. Scrapbooking and crochet turned into sewing and quilting. I became obsessed with quilting just before my baby girl was born, before that I just didn't have time to do anything with twin boys running around. Now again I am in that stage with limited time, but whenever I can, I am at my sewing machine. I would love exhibit A. Thanks!

  49. I have a lot of creative and crafty people in my family. My paternal grandparents were involved in woodcarving and embroidery. 53. My first crafting started when I was in maybe the 3rd grade. My Dad hammered some small nails into the end of wooden spools & wound some yarn around them. Then he showed us how to make a chain of the yarn, picking it over the nails & wrapping more yarn. My sister & I would have a contest of who could make the longest chain in the shortest amount of time. I'd love to win either #1 or #3. Thanks.

  54. I have always been a crafter. I came about it naturally, as my mom and both my grandmothers were prolific sewers and knitters as well. I think I am the first in the family to be a quilter though. My first pick if I win would be exhibit A, but both the others are also wonderful prizes, too.

As far as how I got into crafting. I grew up watching my mom sew ALL or our clothes and toys but I was never allowed to touch the machine. I did a lot of made up crafts on my own as a little kid. Now that I have kids I try to get them involved (even though they are very young). But now I think about crafting, mainly sewing all day long! I can't get enough.

And so I bought the fabric. And some coordinating solids (because I was - and still am - too scared for prints) and that was the start of my quilting!

  91. hahaha all three for sure! or at least exhibit A.

my boss lady at work actually got me into crafting - first it was making jewelry, then it was an attempt at knitting, then it was spinning fiber into yarn, then it was weaving, then it was sewing, then it was crocheting.

  92. Yay, I'm glad you're participating this year! :D I started with cross-stitch. At holidays, all the women would retire to the "front room" and bust out their cross-stitch projects and chat. It is associated with such happy memories for me! My mom always sewed her own clothes, so I got a sewing machine at one point, but somehow ended up quilting instead of making clothes. I...don't actually remember how I fell into quilting, which is sad since it was only a year or so ago. I think I ran across some modern quilt photos and got sucked in that way!

  95. I think that I inherited it from my mother (who I did not grow up with), but it was a grade school teacher who got me into sewing (ornaments from felt) and actually that same year I made a cape from a pattern that came with my Mandy doll. It was the first pattern I ever used and I had to hand sew it (just like Laura Ingalls Wilder!). I met my mother later in life and have found out that she is VERY crafty- interesting! Also I learned to knit (in Italian!) from my aunt- and I didn't speak Italian at the time! I would love the wool as the knitting bug has really hit, but I can never say no to fabric!
    thanks for the giveaway!

  96. Love the fabric and the yarn! I grew up with a mom who could sew anything! I've been quilting ever since and am learning new things all the time.

There was no stopping me after that.
