Baby sized WIP - literally!

Linking up to Freshly Pieced for a wonderful WIPy time :-) Thanks to Lee for hosting such a fun gathering of projects. And of course - the button!

WIP Wednesday at Freshly Pieced

I won't be analyzing 100 day Hustle list today because we are almost at our half way point - and have a linky party Friday - so look for a good post then :-) And if you aren't a yarn person - I would look away. It's a yarn day.

What I will share is baby hat #2. Baby happened last Friday and as this is a newborn hat I think I best get it done tonight. I made good headway last night at Tuesday night knitting (with some of my favorite people). Again this is the umbilical cord hat pattern from Stitch n Bitch - easily found here on Ravelry.

It is a real easy pattern and grows before you know it. I am just using a soft baby yarn (Bernat I think) from JoAnn. I flipped it over my needles so you can see what it looks like, and as doing this realized I need to flip the whole thing for real - otherwise my I cord top will be inside the hat - no bueno.

Baby hat #2
Just a simple knit pattern - stockinette I believe? Can you tell it is for a little boy?
Here it is on the needles like I have been knitting. I am not sure why I started backwards... Oh well. Time to flip it all - hopefully I don;t lose any stitches. I am about to start decreasing. My last hat decrease didn't go so well. I have 64 stitches on here - so if anyone has any great tips or protocols for decreasing please share!

Knitting it on circulars
Magic looping - knitting the hat in the round - but no worries - my beloved DPNs are coming!
Also, does anyone know how to keep your stitches tight at your needle change junctions? I always have looser stitches here - and I am pretty sure I am not knitting with the magic loop right. Please help!

Question for you advanced knitters
Doesn't look too pretty.
So, hopefully I will finish this tonight. All while snuggled under Mr Sudoku. That way little baby's head can be covered!

Happy Wednesday and make sure to vote at Blogger's Quilt festival and check out all the other WIPs! Oh and have a great day!

ciao

  1. You doing circle with two needles only? I haven't seen that yet. I used to knit with 5 needles to get the circle. I didn't study vocabulary for knitting so I might just not understand this correctly.

  2. I wish I knew how to help with your loose stitch problem, but I had the same problem making socks. I just made sure I pulled the yarn as tight as I could before I started the first stitch on the next needle and it seemed to help. Super cute hat though :)

  3. I have that problem too. I try to pull the working thread tight when I pass that point, and it helps a little

  4. To get those stitches tight, when you change needles make sure you pull tight after you knit the second stitch. I don't know why this works, but it does.
