Marla over at Sew Hungry offers us a beautiful time of pondering anything but work on these happy Fridays. Alas this Friday is bittersweet for many reasons but one in particular: my dad is off to New York to help with the restoration of power for all of those without. I am really glad he is going - every little bit of help counts and I know he can make a big difference. The aftermath of Hurricane Sandy is horrendous and I am glad in some small part my family can help. But the bittersweet angle is that I worry about him. I just hope he manages to stay safe and get as much power going as soon as possible so everyone in NY gets back on their feet and he can be home in time for Thanksgiving! Funny story actually, their plane broke on the tarmac at LAX so they got bused over to the local air force base and rode with their trucks in a military transport aircraft all throughout the night and landed at Stuart National Base in NY this morning.

So I decided I needed to help too! And what better way than by crafting. Jennifer of Knotted Thread is putting together quilts for victims of Hurricane Sandy. Here is her Flickr group where you can sign up to make blocks. She can use all the scrappy blocks she can get - so I signed up to make a couple to send her way. So many great quilters in the community have signed up already that she is going to have blocks coming out of her ass. But that means more quilts for families in need! Also Huffington Post has a great read here for how to help with donations.
Sorry for the more sobering post but like I said it is bittersweet... it is a sad situation but we get to help!
Happy Friday to everyone!
